Meredith facilitated a school wide book study at Matthew Maury in 2017 with the text Teaching With Poverty in Mind: What Being Poor Does to Kids' Brains and What Schools Can Do About It by Eric Jensen.
In 2017 Meredith founded the Maury Scholars program at Matthew Maury.
Meredith was nominated by her colleagues as the Teacher of the Year for Matthew Maury Elementary for the 2017- 2018 school year.
Meredith started a video production after school club called "Maury Live!" and started a morning news crew in 2018.
Meredith was part of a school team that planned and organized the first annual Multicultural Night at Maury in 2017 and again in 2018.
In the summer of 2019 Meredith and her husband moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Meredith is now teaching 4th grade at Fall-Hamilton Elementary school in the Metro Nashville Public School System.
As a student at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, Meredith discovered her love of teaching first as a swimming instructor at Chinquapin Recreation Center where she would walk after school each day to teach. After graduation she took her passion for teaching to George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia where she earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Integrative Studies and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction in Elementary Education. In her graduate training, she had an opportunity to utilize evidence based curriculum as a student teacher in a yearlong program offered at Fairfax County’s Westlawn Elementary School. Upon graduation Meredith knew she wanted to return to the community and schools she knew best; Alexandria.
She began her ACPS teaching career at William Ramsay Elementary school teaching second grade. As a first year teacher at Ramsay, Meredith immersed herself in an incredible learning community of teachers, all working relentlessly to close the achievement gap and support English learners, students with disabilities, and their students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It is here that her focus on closing the achievement gap and serving the most underserved students in ACPS was formed.
That focus transferred with her to Matthew Maury in 2015 where Meredith began teaching in the second grade special education inclusion classroom. At Maury, Meredith has demonstrated a unyielding and infectious commitment to ensuring every student has access to the curriculum, especially students with disabilities. In addition to teaching second grade, Meredith co-founded and coordinates the Maury Scholars program, which identifies and nurtures academic and personal potential in students from historically underrepresented populations through mentoring and enrichment programs. Meredith is also committed to the professional growth of her school community and facilitates the Maury Book Club. In 2017 Meredith's colleagues nominated her for the Matthew Maury Teacher of the Year in ACPS.
In 2018 Meredith transitioned to the fourth grade team for the 2018-2019 school year in an effort to diversify her teaching experience and expand her instructional knowledge to an upper grade level.
In 2019 Meredith's family got an opportunity to move to Nashville, Tennessee where she quickly fell in love with a new community of students and families to serve at Fall-Hamilton Elementary School. At Fall-Hamilton she embraces the trauma-informed approach to teaching and learning that is being pioneered by the staff and teachers across the country. She is excited to share her skill set and knowledge around these practices with teachers and staff in ACPS.
